Season 6 Episode 5:

Sairey Gernes, founder of Urban Undercover: elevated basics for everyday travel

Born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, Sairey attended The University of Michigan for college. She then went on to live in Sevilla, Spain, Austin, Texas, Amsterdam and San Francisco before returning to home base. She is a traveler at heart, which was sparked on a mission trip to Guatemala in High School, yet it would take a few years to realize she could develop her passion for travel and connecting the world into a business. She first attended school for Art Direction and worked in Advertising. She also waited tables for many, many years before pursuing Urban Undercover full time.

What started as amazing underwear made for the woman on the go, under the name Irely (pronounced eye-r-lee), was rebranded in 2014 to Urban Undercover. It was then Sairey really merged her passion for travel and human connection across the globe with building a business. Passionate about encouraging experiences and adventures, Urban Undercover designs versatile and timeless everyday essentials made to take you anywhere your journey goes. With an emphasis on sustainability and smarter manufacturing processes, functionality, performance and style, our designs are effortless essentials for the modern woman that are meant to be worn in a variety of situations for a variety of looks, providing ease of packing and confidence in being outside your comfort zone. Remaining true to our mission of encouraging travel, and selling via online, retail stores (flagship in the MSP Airport) and wholesale to destination Spas, resorts and hotels, the business is growing.

Sairey currently lives in Mendota Heights, Minnesota with her partner, Calvin, and their Daughter, Hazel, and although the journey has been filled with many of both ups and downs, she is beyond grateful to be living and building her dream.
